India secures US tariff exemption for pharma products: Hetero chairman

Hyderabad, Apr 3 (UNI) Dr Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, member of Rajya Sabha and Chairman of Hetero Group of Companies, on Thursday expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India for successfully securing an exemption for Indian pharmaceutical products from the US reciprocal tariff.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Dr Parthasaradhi lauded the government’s swift action and
diplomatic negotiations that led to this significant achievement.

He highlighted the crucial role this exemption will play in strengthening India’s pharmaceutical industry, boosting exports, and reinforcing India's global reputation as the "Pharmacy of the World."
“This decision is a testament to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and diplomatic efforts in resolving trade concerns amicably," he said it will not only enhance India’s position as a reliable and quality supplier of pharmaceutical products but also improve the affordability and availability of lifesaving medicines for US patients.
The exemption is expected to have a far-reaching impact on India's economy and employment opportunities, as it ensures continued growth for the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr Parthasaradhi also acknowledged the relentless efforts of the government’s economic diplomacy and strategic engagement with the US, which played a pivotal role in achieving this favourable outcome.
“I congratulate the Prime Minister on this remarkable success and deeply appreciate the government’s
unwavering commitment to promoting India’s interests on the global stage. This exemption safeguards our pharmaceutical industry from potential trade barriers and fosters stronger international trade relations,” he added.
Dr Parthasaradhi reaffirmed his support for the Indian pharmaceutical industry and expressed optimism about continued government backing in ensuring the sector’s sustained growth and global competitiveness.
